San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts Launches the Legendary Songwriter Series: A Collaborative Effort with Green Apple Music Series to Highlight the Stories Behind the Songs
Memphis-raised and Austin-based songwriter Kelley Mickwee will be the guest artist for the first session in the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts’ new and innovative Legendary Songwriter Series.
Beginning at 1:30 PM. on Sunday, May 31, in the SAMFA Grand Hall, the program will feature SAMFA Director Seth Hopkins asking Mickwee questions about her growing up years, how she got into music, her writing process and the inspiration behind some of her favorite songs. Mickwee will also play some or all those songs as the interview progresses.
Mickwee will be in San Angelo to open for Brandy Clark as part of the Green Apple Music Series on Saturday night, May 30, at the Brooks and Bates Theater. Kicking off the collaboration between Green Apple and SAMFA, she will then stay over to do the songwriter session on Sunday afternoon.

“This is a new venture for us,” said Green Apple Founder Craig Pfluger. “We are pleased to be partnering with SAMFA to bring more original music to San Angelo and encourage songwriters.”

7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Concho Shakespeare is back with a brand new production of…
JULIUS CAESAR
Mark your calendar’s for this timely tale of politics, government overthrows, and the true weight of power.
Johnny and his Spur Band found success on many levels playing the bar room and honky-tonk circuit from LaGrange, Texas to Ruidoso, NM. He remained busy in the 80’s and 90’s recording some of his top hits including, “She Never Gets Mad, She Just Gets Even”, “Fast Flight Back to Boston”, and “Only On Paper” landing him on the Texas Country Charts. Once recognized on the Texas Country Music Charts he was then pursued by promoters as the opening acts for such legends including David Allan Coe, Willie Nelson, Billy Joe Shaver, Steve Wariner, Rusty Weir, Johnny Paycheck, and Clint Black to name a few. Johnny’s music caught the ear of Nashville recording artist and producer David Frizzell who is the brother of Country Music Hall of Famer Lefty Frizzell and also the duet partner of Shelly West. David Frizzell produced Johnny’s first Nashville album. Johnny is married with three sons and currently resides in Midland, Texas.
Johnny took several years off of playing to raise his sons but his love for music kept him writing and playing. He has once again entered the music scene where he stays consistently booked and busy performing real country music. His most recent song released is “I STILL LOVE YOU, BUT….” Recently, he has performed at the Iconic stages of Lil Reds Longhorn Saloon in Fort Worth, the Broken Spoke in Austin and 11th Street Cowboy Bar in Bandera.
