American Plains Artists Show

Fort Concho National Historic Landmark: 630 S Oakes

10:00 am - 4:00 pm

Fort

The annual American Plains Artists Juried Exhibit and Sale returns to Fort Concho National Historic Landmark.

All art is for sale with purchases benefiting the artists, the American Plains Artists Association and Fort Concho. The show is located near the intersection of Flipper and Burgess Streets on the fort’s northeast corner.

This year’s show features sixty-three paintings and seven sculptures from forty-one artists of the American Plains Artists group, representing fourteen states.

Organized in Denver City, Texas, in 1982 by a small group of artists, the APA promotes all art and sculpture works that depicts the nation’s Great Plains. This marks the 41st annual show and the sixth time since 2016 the show has come to San Angelo and Fort Concho.

Themes covered by this year’s show include cowboys, Native Americans, wildlife of the Great Plains, farming and ranching scenes, natural vistas, and characters of the Old West.

Noted Fort Concho site manager Bob Bluthardt, “this show represents our efforts to interpret history through another means. We cover our shared western heritage with music, arts/sculpture, sports, special exhibits and many programs. We also invite everyone to the annual National Cowboy Day program of Saturday, July 25, held at the show.”

The exhibit is housed in the Quartermaster Galleries, one of the first two buildings erected at Fort Concho in 1868. It was renovated in the early 1980s as the first home of the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts. When the art museum moved into its new facility in 1999, Fort Concho converted it for its own special displays, travelling exhibits, and as a rental venue for private events.

The show will be open, free of charge, until August 2 on Tuesdays through Saturdays, 10 am – 4 pm; Sundays 1:30 pm – 4:30 pm; closed on Mondays.

For more information about the show, please contact Fort Concho at (325) 481-2646

What the Constitution Means to Me

SAPAC- 82 Gillis St.

7:30 pm - 2:00 pm

What The Constitution Means to Me 600 x 800 jpeg 6e5b60a420

Playwright Heidi Schreck’s boundary-breaking play breathes new life into the U.S. Constitution. Fifteen-year-old Heidi earned her college tuition by winning Constitutional debate competitions across the United States. In this hilarious, hopeful and achingly human play, she resurrects her teenage self in order to trace the profound relationship between four generations of women and the founding document that shaped their lives.

As the United States marks its 250th anniversary, this timely and deeply personal story invites us to reflect on who the Constitution was written for, and how each generation reinterprets its meaning.

Audience discussions will follow every performance.

Due to some mature language and content, recommended for 13+.

Special Thanks to American Legion Post 572, San Angelo PAC, and Tyler Hughes with Relative Marketing

Tickets are non-refundable.

John Bauhman - Full Band Performance

The House of FiFi DuBois: 123 S Chadbourne St

729658381 1003369862537283 1237662009154416952 n

To quote Robert Keen, “it’s the little things.” John Baumann has that songwriters eye. His songs are populated with those little things from life. Familiar things that draw you in, paint pictures in your mind and make you say, “wish I would have thought of that”. That’s the great thing about this kind of songwriting, it’s not flashy in any kind of way, except it’s emotional depth. - Bruce Robison

Since his debut EP in 2012, John Baumann has established himself as equal parts brilliant songwriter and captivating entertainer. He’s released four solo records, landed cuts with other artists - from Kenny Chesney to the Randy Rogers Band - and continued to cement his budding reputation as a distinctively talented singer-songwriter. He is always working on new material, maintaining a steady run of tour dates with his band and as a solo performer, while also a member of the acclaimed group The Panhandlers. Richard Skanse (Lonestar Music Magazine) writes: “Too soon for accolades? Nah, More like right on time. And so long as he keeps gunning for the horizon and doesn’t succumb to the middle of the road, there oughta be a lot more of ’em coming not too far down the line.”

The man who never stops moving. Hailing from the midwest and currently calling Austin, TX home, Donovan Keith is best known for his classic soul vocals and infectious showmanship that has won over audiences time and time again. Donovan moved to Austin in 2009 and cut his teeth in the Texas music scene in gritty, low-ceiling dive bars with his first project, Soul Track Mind. STM was embraced by the community and Donovan’s one-of-a-kind, dance-infused stage show became beloved by fans and acknowledged by reviewers across the country, earning kudos from the likes of Performer Magazine which declared, “Aside from showcasing an impressive vocal range and blues-soaked sound, Keith can engage an audience with his unbridled enthusiasm and dance moves.”

Donovan’s uniquely vintage style combining soul, funk, and rock blends well with a variety of musical genres and his universal appeal has seen him open for acts such as Enrique Iglesias, Tower Of Power, the late Charles Bradley, Fastball, Snarky Puppy, and Erykah Badu. Career highlights have included official selections at SXSW, the attainment of the Louisiana Music Prize, and appearances at Wakarusa Music Festival, Utopia Festival, and Viva Big Bend.

Johnny Blaine & The Spur Band

82 Gillis St

7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Rodeo parade

Concho Shakespeare is back with a brand new production of…
JULIUS CAESAR
Mark your calendar’s for this timely tale of politics, government overthrows, and the true weight of power.

Johnny and his Spur Band found success on many levels playing the bar room and honky-tonk circuit from LaGrange, Texas to Ruidoso, NM. He remained busy in the 80’s and 90’s recording some of his top hits including, “She Never Gets Mad, She Just Gets Even”, “Fast Flight Back to Boston”, and “Only On Paper” landing him on the Texas Country Charts. Once recognized on the Texas Country Music Charts he was then pursued by promoters as the opening acts for such legends including David Allan Coe, Willie Nelson, Billy Joe Shaver, Steve Wariner, Rusty Weir, Johnny Paycheck, and Clint Black to name a few. Johnny’s music caught the ear of Nashville recording artist and producer David Frizzell who is the brother of Country Music Hall of Famer Lefty Frizzell and also the duet partner of Shelly West. David Frizzell produced Johnny’s first Nashville album. Johnny is married with three sons and currently resides in Midland, Texas.

Johnny took several years off of playing to raise his sons but his love for music kept him writing and playing. He has once again entered the music scene where he stays consistently booked and busy performing real country music. His most recent song released is “I STILL LOVE YOU, BUT
.” Recently, he has performed at the Iconic stages of Lil Reds Longhorn Saloon in Fort Worth, the Broken Spoke in Austin and 11th Street Cowboy Bar in Bandera.
